Our Mission:

There is a need for an interconnected network of support from the pure-science student community with respects to professional and academic, advice and guidance. Sci.Stud is designed to be a resource for such support - student profiles and advice columns will be developed for the greater scientific community as this resource continues to grow.

Who are we?

Deni Ogunrinde - Bsc.H. (Biology), M.Sc. (Plant and Molecular Biology), MPA

Founder, President, and Chief-Author/Editor

(August 2014 - Present)

I understand feeling lost and having little guidance in the pursuit of an undergraduate degree in the sciences. In addition, I am deeply aware of the difficulties associated with figuring out what academic and career path to follow. Consequently, I created Sci.Stud, a resource for undergraduate and graduate science students to help you discover the variety of career-oriented paths that are available, but also, to provide insight into means by which you can pursue them.

I am currently working as a Senior Policy Advisor for the Ontario Ministry of Infrastructure, but my interests also include energy policy, plant biotechnology, and dance.

Anastasia Savrova – Bsc.H. (Biology), M.Sc.  (Sex and Evolution)

Vice-President and Interviewer/Author

(June 2016 - Present)

Knowing that I love learning and teaching about evolution I pursued a Master’s of Science degree after my Bachelors degree at Queen’s University. However, I did not always know exactly what I wanted to do throughout my undergraduate career. By being involved in Sci.Stud I hope to inspire others, who are in a similar position, to go into careers they are passionate about and get different ideas of what they can use their degree and experiences towards.

While continuing my studies in Academia is one of my top priority, I am also looking into being involved in other research-based careers such museum work, commercial research, and teaching at the university level.

Rachel Field – Bsc.H. (Life Sciences Maj., Global Development Studies Min.)

Interviewer/Author

(December 2017 - Present)

Throughout my undergraduate degree, my interests have grown and changed along with my goals for the future. I find it extremely helpful to gain insights from those who have combined their science degrees with other interests to find an area of work they are truly passionate about.

I am excited to be writing for Sci.Stud and hope to challenge other students to explore science-related careers that they might not have otherwise considered. In the future, I would like to pursue a career that will allow me to integrate my health sciences background with the field of global development and public health.
